Star Wars Crafts

I got this little book for my head child crafter in the house for his 10th bday.
Oh yes he liked it.
We spent one Sat afternoon making these finger puppets.
I cut out the pieces and he did the sewing and gluing.

This project was not in the book but inspired, Kalla and I made this Princess Leia peg doll.

Then Zachary came home with this origami Yoda that a friend made him and he made some for his siblings.
And then Zachary went a little paper mini puppet crazy.
It started with this General Grievous (move over Darth Vader...this guy is my boys fav villian).

Shoe box x-wing plane with fighter.
Complete with cockpit made with a ziplock baggie.
And fighter pilot and droid.
Then there is the Millennium Falcon with Han Solo and Chewy.

And many other paper puppets.
I'm not sure who they all are.
I know there is Darth Maul, Obi Wan, C-3PO, R2-D2, Darth Vader, Darth Sidious, an Ewok, a battle droid (roger roger!) and more.
Zachary made these by drawing the character, then taping the back on and I think they are stuffed lightly with scrap paper.
They did use the Star Wars Encyclopedia book to copy the characters.

I tell you who needs toys when you have ample supply of copy paper, crayons, tape and shoe boxes!

  2. That is really impressive Zachary! Those of us from the original era with older brothers like Star Wars too, although I did have to be Princess Leia all the time and never got to be Luke Skywalker.
Deanns, I went to the Knitting and Stitching Show here and all I bought was a Magic Clip hair thing. It reminded me of our rubber broom purchase.;)

  3. The puppets are adorable! The faces are so cute.

There's a book called origami Yoda. It's kind of like "Diary of a Whimpy Kid". In the back of the book there are directions on how to make your own origami Yoda. That might be where your son's friend got the idea. Just sharing in case you're interested in checking out the book.

  5. Thank you for posting this! I'm going to get this book for my Star Wars loving boys.
Via pinterest, I found this site where you can print off these little paper Star Wars characters like what your boys were making. They might enjoy making the ones from this site: http://toy-a-day.blogspot.com/2008/12/day-84-stormtrooper.html

My son printed off & cut out some Mario ones for a friend's birthday this past week too.

  9. Oh and I will say, most projects will need some or a lot of adult help. Z, who is 10 needs help with many. But I love how it sparked his creativity to make other stuff too.
