Sew a quick doll's sleeping bag

I made this quick doll sleeping bag for Kalla's doll for her Camping Day at kindergarten a couple of weeks ago.  It was super simple as I used velcro instead of dealing with a long zipper.  Easier for her to work with too.

This is what it looks like opened up.

I also included a coordinating pillow.  It is completely separate, however you could hand sew it to the sleeping bag if you want.

To make your own doll's sleeping bag, cut 2 pieces of fabric according to the measurements above.  This fits a 25" doll.  Adjust accordingly if you have a stuffed animal or doll of different size.  You want to make sure to cut your fabric so they match up with right sides facing.  I also cut a piece of quilt batting the same size.  Lay and pin your pieces right side facing and batting on the top.  Sew along all lines leaving an opening to reverse it to right sides out along any of the sides.  Reverse it out being sure to make sure all corners are turned out neatly.  I then carefully topstitched the all edges being sure the opening is securely sewn shut.  Now folding your sleeping bag top over as seen in pictures, carefully line up velcro and pin and sew strips down.

If you like, make a pillow.  I simply cut a rectangle about 11.5" X 12.5".  Fold in half along the 12.5" side right side together and sew leaving an opening for stuffing.  Stuff firmly and close the opening by either slip stitch (hand sew) or topstitch with a machine.

Finally have a project to link in Misty's fun sewing parties:  Sew Cute Tuesday

Love it!! I particularly like the velcro side closures so it's easy for little hands to get the doll in and out.

I made it!!! My 2 y/o granddaughter Ellery was fabric shopping with me for her Easter dress fabric(s) and she found her FAVORITE, Minnie Mouse on her FAVORITE color, purple!! Well, what's a Nana to do?? I bought the remnant of the cotton one and an equal amount of the coordinating flannel. The next day I got it made!! I had some leftover fabrics from her crib bedding I made when she was born so I made the pillow to match HER pillow with purple satin on one side and pink Minky dot on the other. (Since I'm writing this on my iPad, I can't upload a picture. Boohoo. Will try to find time to use my laptop later and add a picture then!!). Anyway, ELLERY LOVES IT!!!! All of her dolls and even her stuffed Minnie Mouse fits in it perfectly!!!!!

My sister will love this and it's really hard to find things that she likes. I made her doll a quilt and she and I went and got the fabric and she still didn't like it! She will love to have this for Christmas . I love the Velcro idea . Thank you so much for this awesome patern! I know I talk a lot.

I love this idea! I'm going to sew a small strip of velcro on the back of the pillow and the sleeping bag as well so it will stay in place.
